Career
Anne began her professional career in 1983 with Wollongong City Council. She completed a Bachelor of Arts Degree and obtained post graduate qualifications in Diploma of Urban and Regional Planning.
During her time with Wollongong City Council she has worked in statutory and strategic development areas. She has assessed and determined a broad range of development applications including major applications for residential, commercial and industrial developments. She has often been required to present information to community forums and other stakeholder groups to assist in project assessment.
She has also formulated, authored, co-authored and critically reviewed a range of statutory and strategic documents. One of the more significant documents was for appropriate residential development outcomes throughout the Local Government Area ranging from single dwelling to multi-storey mixed use development.
Anne was seconded to work on Council’s submission to the Helensburgh Commission of Inquiry which considered appropriate land use development around the township of Helensburgh. The township borders the Royal National Park and drains to the Hacking River Catchment and is significant because of the historical and ecological context of the site. The Inquiry also considered landpooling options for a paper subdivision created in the 19thC. The preparation of the submission required collating documentation associated with these issues and development options that had been considered over a twenty years timeframe.
Prior to leaving Council, Anne had been seconded to position of Manager-Planning Support Systems and was responsible for 25 administrative staff, reviewing systems documentation, organisational procedures and reviewing the content and formatting of the production of Planning Certificates.
Major achievement include
• Written city wide Local Environmental Plans and Development Control Plans eg enabling urban consolidation, prohibiting dual occupancies in certain areas, developed legislation to protect areas of environmental significance.• Authoring and co-authoring the formulation and writing of policies for the city. These projects include Dual Occupancy and Urban Consolidation Policies and development of guidelines for multi-unit housing.
• Writing Council’s submissions for the Helensburgh Commission of Inquiry. This inquiry considered appropriate land uses for the township of Helensburgh. The submission required researching more than twenty years of documentation and submissions, prioritising this information and presenting it in a logical format.
• Briefed and organised resources for an independent Mediator to negotiate issues between the conservation community, land owners, developers and the general community for the Gills Creek Catchment.
• Lectured on Planning Law at the University of Western Sydney.
• Represented Council on the Hacking River Catchment Management Committee This representation required the development of a strategic plan for the management of the catchment, negotiating and resolving community expectations and the resource commitment capacity.
