Siteplus was engaged to provide an overview and critique of existing urban design strategies for the Fitzgibbon urban release in the northern sector of the Brisbane release corridor. The area comprises 2000ha of land within an 8sq km impact zone. Ultimately 15000 dwellings can be delivered. Sewer capacity is available however the site is constrained by contaminated land, waste emplacement flora and fauna issues and access to Brisbane’s freeway and rail systems.
Solutions involved creating walkable villages off a critical public transport spine which connects to freeways bus systems and rail connections facilitating interchange between these transport links. This plan provided for a carbon forest sink off-site on the coastal edge of Moreton Bay. To achieve the potential for these outcomes, high level negotiations were required with a range of government officials and representatives. -
